It was totally my fault for waiting so long, but I couldn't believe if I would have made it just one week sooner, they would have still been there! Oh well found some that worked just fine.
Ryan used the chain saw to cut them the length I wanted. Then we got some giant nails, which I think we also had laying around, and hammered it together. Then we put it in the ground about 1 1/2 feet.
I really like it but I think maybe it is missing something. We were going to hang a metal sign with a horse rider and our last name on it, but we ended up putting that somewhere else (which I will show you soon.)
So I would really like to hear from you. Does this need something else? If so what? Or do you think it looks good just simple like this? It sits right next to the sidewalk in front of my front porch.

DeleteHorseshoes or rusty metal stars. I like the idea of a hanging sign too. Maybe on the street side it could say "Howdy!" or "Welcome" & on the side facing the house it could say "Bye!" or "Thanks for stopping by!" or "Ya'll come back soon!". You could make the sign with a border that you could paint red to match your flowers. Or if you hang the sign from a couple bits of chain you could maybe use a couple of red bandana fabric strips torn with raggedy edges tied in a knot around the bottom of the chain at the top of the sign for a bit of color. Then you could easily change the fabric/color depending on the seasons.

ReplyDeleteI love it! I wanted a hitching post since we started building our home - never got one. I wanted a wooden trough in front of mine filled with flowers, and yes, rope - love your rope. I do have a pair of my dad's old western boots on the porch. I also made my powder room a "west room" and the walls are filled with old west photos of family members, dad's hat, dress western boots, steer horns, horse shoes, barbed wire art, a cap gun and a bolero all from family members past.

ReplyDeleteI see it's been a while, but what the heck. I was thinking you could maybe add some old iron hooks that used to be outside old buildings for hitching up the horses. Love all the ideas thoug. What did you finally decide upon?
ReplyDeleteYou could put an old horse bridle on a horse shoe hanger on your hitch. The rope you have on there now looks good also.
ReplyDeleteWe have larger size post. So what we did was place an old wore out saddle on it at one end & attached a saw blade (that my husband painted a scenery on with our last name at the bottom) at the other end on the vertical post. But we do have horses. So we have & love lots of western decor.

So we placed an old worn saddle on it on one end & a saw blade on the other end (vertical post) with a painting of a barn, wagon, creek, pasture with a horse at the fence like it's greeting you on it. It has our name on the bottom of it. We love it! But, we have horses so we have & love western decor. Love yours with the plants! :)
