As I have mentioned before I am LDS and I am an Activity Days Leader (group of 8-12 year old girls). The first activity I planned was about a year ago. I had the girls make these cute little pumpkins. Here is what I did to prepare:
I gathered a few sticks from my yard, and used pruning shears to cut them to about 1 1/2 inches long.
I had my hubby cut a 2x4 to about 7 inches long.
Then I spray painted the 2x4's.
I cut orange scrapbook paper to the same dimensions as the 2x4's.
Then I tore the paper all the way around the outside.
All the girls had to do was Mod Podge the paper on, hot glue the stem on, and twist crepe paper and tie it on their stem.
Pretty easy and made all from stuff I had on hand.
