Shelving Makeover

This project is from a few years ago. I have been saving it for when I had a busy weekend and not much time to write a post.  My sister's wedding was this past weekend so it was definitely a busy one!

Sorry this is not a great picture (below).  I think I took it when we were still moving in to our house. See the green trim around the door on the left and the pink around the door on the right?  I painted over those so fast I had forgotten they were ever those colors until I looked at this picture!

The entire hallway was pink, and after I painted it all white,  those brown cabinets were a real eye sore.  Plus the shelves were all crooked and I wanted new straight ones.  To my surprise when we went to rip down the shelves we found that they weren't shelves at all.  They were just some melamine stacked together! There wasn't a single nail or screw in them!  It made them really easy to take down though!

For the new shelves my husband just screwed 1x4's to the wall and then placed shelving cut-to-length on top of them. Then I got the fun job a painting them!  Speaking of painting see that banister you can just see the bottom of in the corner.  That was also an ugly pink color.  I thought it would be such a pain to try and paint that with a brush.... so you know what I painted it with?.... An Old SOCK! Yep that's right I just put it over my hand, dipped it in paint and then rubbed it on the banister.  And it worked GREAT!

I mentioned this project was a little while ago. Here is how it looked right after I finished it. It is not quite that organized anymore. I wish it was!  I'll have to make this the next spot on my list that needs some re-organizing!

In the picture above you can see the unfinished floor.  The last part of this project was finishing the wood laminate that matched into the kitchen floor.  If you have ever wanted wood laminate flooring, but thought you couldn't put it in, you were wrong!  This stuff is SO easy to put in!

I love this flooring so much at the bottom of my stairs and the white shelves look SO much better than before!

Feature Friday ~ Fireplace Mantle

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I featured this Pillow made from a Sweater?

When I found that sweater, is when I decided to follow Rachel @ The Old Farmhouse on Windmill Hill by email.  A few weeks ago I got this awesome project in my email!  I couldn't wait to feature it!  I recommend you go to her blog and start following her as well!

This transformation is AMAZING!  She used cabinet doors for the side.  Isn't that awesome?!

Never miss a new post!

Nursery Remodel

Before we had our son we had to do some remodeling to prepare for his arrival. I knew I wanted it to have a farm/cowboy theme. I love how it turned out!  But it was quite a journey to get there.

This is where it started.

Our home is more than 100 years old.  And I think previous tenants must have added a layer of wall paper every year!  There were so many layers!  And the walls were a fiber board that just kind of crumbled if you did much with it.  We opted to do a little framing and just sheet rock over it rather than deal with all of that wall paper.

The sheetrock by far took the most work.  Not really hanging it, but the mudding seams and screws and sanding them all down!  It is just a tedious process.  But I can't complain my husband did most of it!

After that we used a Texture Gun to add texture to the walls, then hung beadboard and painted, before we got the new carpet!

We also had to frame in and hang all of these doors, and had to build the closet door ourselves since they didn't sell a standard door that size.  We basically just sandwiched 2x4's between beadboard and added hinges.

This darling mobile was made by my sister-in-law. She cut out bronc riders with a cricut, then punched holes in them to hang them from string. Believe it or not the top loop is a fan belt!  She just tied the string to the fan belt, and hung it all from ribbon!  I LOVE it!

I love shopping on Amazon.com. These are some of the items i bought from there and used to decorate this room:
