Before we had our son we had to do some remodeling to prepare for his arrival. I knew I wanted it to have a farm/cowboy theme. I love how it turned out! But it was quite a journey to get there.
This is where it started.
Our home is more than 100 years old. And I think previous tenants must have added a layer of wall paper every year! There were so many layers! And the walls were a fiber board that just kind of crumbled if you did much with it. We opted to do a little framing and just sheet rock over it rather than deal with all of that wall paper.
The sheetrock by far took the most work. Not really hanging it, but the mudding seams and screws and sanding them all down! It is just a tedious process. But I can't complain my husband did most of it!
After that we used a Texture Gun to add texture to the walls, then hung beadboard and painted, before we got the new carpet!
We also had to frame in and hang all of these doors, and had to build the closet door ourselves since they didn't sell a standard door that size. We basically just sandwiched 2x4's between beadboard and added hinges.
This darling mobile was made by my sister-in-law. She cut out bronc riders with a cricut, then punched holes in them to hang them from string. Believe it or not the top loop is a fan belt! She just tied the string to the fan belt, and hung it all from ribbon! I LOVE it!
I love shopping on Amazon.com. These are some of the items i bought from there and used to decorate this room:

Wow that transformation looks great. It gives me an idea since we are facing a similar dilemma with old walls and wall paper. The walls of our post WW2 house is that the walls are asbestos. We can simply sheet over them. :)
ReplyDeleteYou mention "previous tenants" Does that mean that you rent? Are you allowed to do major work in a rented property? We are in Australia and have to get permission from the home owner if we want to make any changes as a tenant. If we are improving it at our own expense it is usually approved.
We own our home. But there have been two previous owners that have done some crazy things that we are now fixing. Many layers of wall paper is just one of them. It just depends on your landlord, but I know in a lot of instances Landlord are sometimes willing to let you do the updates for your rental payment that month if it is equal to what you would be paying them. Good luck!
DeleteLots of work! It looks great. I love your blog, just found it.
