Lately I have really been feeling the need to get some spaces in my house organized. I decided to start with the junk drawer.
As you can see it needed it!
I cleaned everything out and tossed the things we didn't need, set aside the things that should be somewhere else, and grouped everything that should stay.
There were seriously like 6 lighters in there (half of which didn't work). And probably 5 flashlights! So I weeded out the ones we would never use and just kept two of each.
Earlier that day I was cleaning up my sons room. I just about threw away some shoe boxes from new shoes we had just bought him. But then I realized they were perfect for that afternoon's project!
I also used some of my small tupperware. I have tons of these little ones that I use for our lunch boxes and to serve food to my son. So I figured I could spare a few.
It looks so much better now! I hope it stays like this!
I hope this has inspired you to tackle your junk drawer!

Hurray for organizing - it's one of my favorite things! Before the boys go back to school we will be organizing their rooms and i like the idea of recycling shoes boxes. Your 'junk" drawer looks like mine!:
ReplyDeletehttp://cannaryfamily.blogspot.com/2012/03/no-such-thing-as-junk-drawer.html (: Good job!
It DOES look nice! How I've managed to eliminate this problem, is I no longer HAVE a junk drawer, lol! I have designatd spots for everything. My husband is rather sloppy/unorganized (and yes, he knows it) and anytime we have had a junk drawer, it became a nightmare for me to keep it so the drawer would close, so now I eliminated his endency to stash things whereever! Instead of trying to change his behaviour, I jus eliminated the temptation.
ReplyDeleteorganizing makes me happy! Great job, sometimes the junk drawer is the toughest to tackle. I'm hopping over from the serendipity and spice. Hugs. P.S. I'm following :-)
ReplyDeleteMy junk drawer drives me mad or is it my husband who drives me mad, when he turns it upside down looking for things!? Great tips!

Have a great day!
I also just cleaned out my hubs junk drawer a few weeks ago. I used the plastic containers from the Pringles Chips Single packs for our AA and AAA batteries. I also used our old chk book boxes for him to put new receipts, keys and his slim wallet. It's still kinda clean but I'm sure I'll be cleaning it out again in a few more weeks! Haha
