Barn Wood Sign

I made this barn wood sign for an upcoming boutique I am participating in with Reclaim-ologists and Other Crafty Chicks!

I made this on my day off and to be honest I am a little afraid of the table saw :) I always make my husband cut stuff for me.  He wasn't home so I had to do a little digging and find a piece of wood that was already the right size.  I got lucky and found this one in my stack of wood from the barn.

Because it was cracked I was afraid to pound the nails out.  I didn't want to break it.  They were pretty rusty so I just grabbed a set of pliers and broke them off.

I also took some scrap piece of wood and nailed them to the back with the brad nailer so that if it ever did crack all the way through it would stay together.

I had some glitter scrapbook paper that I hate, but it is really thick so I knew it would work perfect for making stencils.  I cut them out with the cricut.

That was it.  All done!  I LOVE how it turned out.  I am planning to make more for the boutique.  So far I plan to make one that says "EAT" and "HOME".  What ideas do you have for words I could put on a sign?

UPDATE:  I wanted to add these flowers to my sign in the beginning but didn't get it done.

Rustic Lemonade Sign

 I made this rustic Lemonade Sign for the Bridal Shower.  But I ended up not having a great place to put there :(  I also had dreams of making a lemonade stand for this to go on, but didn't get to that. Maybe someday.  I planned for it to look similar to the Potting Bench I made from Old Pallets.

 I made it from some more old wood from the barn.  I just picked out a piece and wrote everything on there in pencil.  Then I turned it over to my husband for burning the letters on.  I am accident prone and he is a Fireman. I thought it was better that he do the fire stuff rather than me.

He just stuck this ring in the fire and then used pliers to traced over my letters with it.  It took sometime because it would cool down rather fast.  He would only get about one letter traced, if that, before he had to put it back in the fire. But it was still pretty easy, just took a little time.

Front Yard Western Decor ~ Hitching Post

There is a funny story about this Hitching post.  When I decided I wanted to make it I went to the barn.  We had a bunch of old posts laying around so I picked out the ones I liked, set them aside and said, "Ryan I want to make a hitching post with these so don't use them for anything."  Well 9 months to a year went by and I finally said, "Let's make that hitching post today."  So we head out to the barn to get my posts and they weren't there. Of course I say, "Where are my posts that I picked out?" and Ryan replied "Oh is that what that pile of posts was for, I just cut them up for firewood last week!" 

It was totally my fault for waiting so long, but I couldn't believe if I would have made it just one week sooner, they would have still been there!  Oh well found some that worked just fine.

Ryan used the chain saw to cut them the length I wanted.  Then we got some giant nails, which I think we also had laying around, and hammered it together.  Then we put it in the ground about 1 1/2 feet.

I really like it but I think maybe it is missing something.  We were going to hang a metal sign with a horse rider and our last name on it, but we ended up putting that somewhere else (which I will show you soon.)  

So I would really like to hear from you.  Does this need something else?  If so what? Or do you think it looks good just simple like this?  It sits right next to the sidewalk in front of my front porch.

Potting Bench from Old Pallets

My Mother-in-Law LOVES to Garden.  About a month ago I went to a craft store with her and she saw a potting table and said how much she loved it.  So of course I thought to myself I could totally make one of those for her.  The best part is we built it out of old pallets and wood we had around our place, so it didn't cost us anything to build!
