Feature Friday ~ Oreo Cupcakes

I'll be honest before seeing this post I had never heard of Oreo cupcakes.  But we LOVE anything Oreo at our house, (Homemade Oreo Cookies and Oreo Ice Cream Pie) and I am sure we will love Oreo cupcakes too.  I can't wait to try out this recipe from The First Year Blog!  YUM!

Top 12 of 2012

If you follow my blog at all you have probably noticed that I have been REALLY scare the last month.  I am so sorry, but excited as well.  For the Christmas season I received over 75 CUSTOM ORDERS!  So ALL of my spare time has been spent trying to get everyone's orders done before Christmas.  The good news is I have tons of cute things to show you!  But you will have to wait until Monday to start seeing them!

I have also decided to change up what and when I post a little bit and you can view the Blog Schedule if you would like to read more about it!

Photo Covered Magnet Board

A couple years ago my sister had a birthday right before she headed off to college.  I knew she was going to go to college and make new friends, become more independent, and probably find a boy to marry (She is getting married this June! YAY!)  But I amid all that fun stuff, I didn't want her to forget about her big sis!  So I knew I wanted to make her something to remind her of our friendship, and all the fun times we have together.  So I came up with this magnet board.


She had been telling me for awhile that we needed to take some "sister pictures."  So one weekend when we were both at our Mom's we took a few pictures around the farm.  And then I used those to make my board, plus a few others I had of us having a good time. But the farm ones were pretty cute!





To Make the Photo Board:
I ordered my prints from Walmart.com online photo department.  The ones that were too close to be cropped I ordered in wallet size.  They were a perfect fit for the board.  I got my magnet board unfinished from the craft store.  I painted it red.  I laid out all the pictures, and trimmed them to fit perfectly. Then I used Mod Podge to put the pictures on. I bought some cute magnets to go on the board.  And WAL-LAH!  It was done!

Giant Birthday Candles ~ Feature Friday

Christine over at The D.I.Y. Dreamer made these darling Giant Birthday Candles! 
What a great craft that you can use over and over again.  And your kids would LOVE to have these out for their birthday!

They measure 30'', 36'' and 42''.

What you will need to make these Giant Birthday Candles:
- Thick cardboard tubes in various size
- Spray paint (White Spray paint and bright colors)
- Masking tape
- White plastic cups
- Yellow and Orange foam sheets (Dollar Store)
- Hot glue gun
- Regular glue
- 6'' Wooden dowels
- Black paint

Farm Birthday Cake

My First child recently turned One Year Old!  So of course I had to make a fabulous birthday cake right?  Right!  Well I would NEVER EVER call myself a cake decorator but I was pretty happy with my amateur cake decorating skills.  I would have been happy to make the Ice Cream Pie I usually make for my husbands birthday or my own, but I figured I should do something special.


I needed more than one cake for the number of people we had coming, so I baked two cakes in standard 9x13 pans (I made sure to use lots of cooking spray so they would fall out of the pan easy).  When they were done I dumped them out then turned them over and put them side by side on a cookie sheet.

For the fence I was going to use popsicle sticks for the posts and tooth picks to go across.  But the day of his birthday came, I started decorating and I realized I didn't have popsicle sticks.  So I used what I did have.  Tooth picks and raffia. On the ends I tied the raffia to the toothpick and then I just wrapped it around each one in-between.  The frosting is just cream cheese frosting with food coloring, and I  used a fork to make rows in the field.

I wanted to put a barn on there but I didn't have room.  We have a toy barn that has a silo.  I took the top off the silo and was trying to figure out what I could put it on. . . I had the empty frosting container sitting on the counter still. . . Yes we have a winner!  It was the perfect size for the silo.  So I pulled off the wrapper and washed it up.  PERFECT!

There you have it an amateur Birthday cake for an Extra Special Boy!

Ice Cream Pie

This is our favorite treat. I almost always make it instead of cake for birthdays!

Oreo Ice Cream Pie and Butterfinger Ice Cream Pie

 Oreo Ice Cream Pie

1 pkg Oreos
5 tsp Butter
Small Cool Whip
Cookies & Cream Ice Cream (or Vanilla)

Step one The Crust: Put Oreos  in a food processor to crush them. about 2 cups of finely crushed oreos was enough for one crust. Then mix in 5 tsp melted butter. Just form a crust out of that. Freeze for an hour before filling with ice cream. (or you could just buy an Oreo crust at the store, but trust me the homemade one is much better!)
Step Two Fill It: Set out .6 qts ice cream (If you buy ice cream in the box it is about 1/3 of the box) so it can partially melt.  Once it is melted just enough that you can mix it good, mix in like 2 oz of cool whip, and as many crushed Oreos as you want. Put the ice cream mixture in your pie crust. Sprinkle partially crushed oreos on top and refreeze. It is best to let it freeze over night then it doesn't melt as fast when you serve it.

Butterfinger Ice Cream Pie

About 5 Butterfingers
Vanilla Ice Cream
Cool Whip
Graham Cracker Crust

 Set out .6 qts vanilla ice cream (If you buy ice cream in the box it is about 1/3 of the box) so it can partially melt.  Once it is melted just enough that you can mix it good, mix in like 2 oz of cool whip, and as many crushed Butterfingers as you want. Put the ice cream mixture in your pie crust. Sprinkle partially crushed Butterfingers on top and refreeze. It is best to let it freeze over night then it doesn't melt as fast when you serve it.
